"Treasure in the Shawnee Hills" opens in pre-Civil War Southern Illinois as five riders on horseback come into an Ohio River port to take a gold cache out of the local bank. The five make it out of town with the gold, but the posse is right behind them. Are they able to elude the posse or
are they caught and the coins returned? The answer lies up in the Shawnee Hills!
Nearly 150 years later, while on a hunting trip with his brother in the Shawnee Hills, a man discovers a gold coin in the midst of a terrible ice storm. Were there more coins to be discovered like the one he found? If so, where did they come from and where could they be? The main character and his best friend spend the rest of story researching and looking for any remaining gold.
"Treasure in the Shawnee Hills" takes us on a twisting journey that involves ancestry/genealogy and a connection between the lucky man who found the coin and one of the bank robbers. It is this connection that pulls the man into the treasure!

Mrs. Wilson decided that before she left she would share some rumors with them.
“Before I leave you alone I thought I might share with you a childhood memory. As kids we loved anything that put a little excitement in our lives. It was told to us that back in the civil war times that there was a great robbery of gold. The robbers made off with the gold up into the hills. It was said that the robbers hid that gold somewhere up in those hills…afterwards being killed by the posse. To this day that gold has never been found.”
She paused a moment and then continued as they listened intently.
“Another story we were always told was that the spirits of those robbers are still up in the hills. They are up there protecting, guarding the gold they took. Our parents always told us anyone that went up into the hills looking for that gold would be haunted and possibly killed by those spirits. You know to this day, full grown I still wonder about them, if they are real. Maybe they are waiting for just the right person to find the gold. Or maybe it is not even there, but all of these years I’ve always believed it was. Well I will leave you to your search.”
